About our Land

On our 17 acres, the majority of which is jungle,  we actively tend to about 5 acres that include coffee bushes, mangosteen and soursop trees, cinnamon, citrus, rambutan, pineapple, sugarcane, and others.

Since we took ownership of this property, we have been working nonstop to develop this into a home for wellness and a food forest, so that everywhere we walk there will be something to pick and snack on, or harvest for a later meal.

We hope that our efforts will not only help us thrive more, but will also call back home to other species such as birds, monkeys, and insects.

Our property is bordered by the Rio Java river.  While waterways cannot be owned in Costa Rica, the property ends at the bank of the river, which offers us essentially private access to a lush green canyon.

We have a couple of trails on our property that will take you to different areas of the river.  We invite you to visit them all, as each space is unique from being cavernous, to open waters and swimming holes, and a generous stretch of sandy beach.

We are in a small local village where most of our neighbors are related to one another in some way, or have known one another their entire lives.  There are generations of families that live on the same plots of land.  Many of our neighbors make their living either on their property or within our small village, without having to go out to the main paved road.

Our road, while it is public, it is more akin to an old country dirt road.  There isn’t much vehicular traffic - in fact, cows tend to get herded from one farm to another as much as cars pass by. Past our home are two other homesites and then the road dead ends into a creek so beautiful you may have seen something like it on a screensaver.

It's not uncommon to hear the farm animals of our neighbors, or the occasional dog barking, which could be from our two dogs, Tika and Sirius.  All in all, it's a very quiet neighborhood, becoming nearly silent (sans nocturnal wildlife sounds) by dark time, which is about 6 pm.

We work our property year round, raising animals and farming various crops.  We have support in the form of neighbor employees  and volunteers.  We are always working to either maintain or improve our conditions here.
