Finca Mālama has a lot to offer to local residents and visitors alike. You can choose a short experience (for example, using the bathhouse) or a multi-day retreat. You can also organize your event on the property and bring your own people to enjoy the facilities. Some possibilities are listed here.

Farm to table meals

Take a guided tour of our 7-hectare farm and discover how permaculture blends with Costa Rican tradition. Walk through gardens and intentionally cultivated fields. See a wide variety of medicinal and edible plants, and learn about organic growing methods. Then head to the dining room to enjoy an exquisite, carefully prepared meal. Taste fresh delights straight from the source: coffee, sugar cane, root vegetables, fruits, and other unique offerings, many common to the region but others quite rare.

About the guide: Colin leads the staff who cultivate and beautify the grounds of Finca Mālama. He is a former naturalist and wilderness expedition leader, a permaculture course organizer, and has lived in the tropics on three continents. He takes pride in what has been built on the property and has deep knowledge of the crops and their uses. He can explain how farming here differs from what's now common with agrochemicals.

About the cook: Tiffany is a chef specializing in plant-based cuisine and a holistic nutritionist, with a deep appreciation for the relationship between food and wellbeing. She specializes in preparing meals from scratch and carefully adapting traditional recipes with fresh ingredients grown on the farm to promote whole-body health. As Finca Mālama expands its on-farm food production, Tiffany offers a wide range of options to surprise and delight guests with delicious creations made from ingredients that have never passed through a vehicle — only through the hands and feet of those who harvest them on our hillside. She has extensive knowledge of ingredients, dishes, and techniques that aren't part of the typical Tico table.

Venue Rental

Rent The Sol or any other spot on our property for your event. It can be something as simple and brief as a 2-hour team meeting in a special setting, or something more elaborate like a wedding or a multi-day event. The Sol, as the main space, is indoors with a variety of different lighting, so it can be used at any time, day or night. Other spots, like the lookout point, are more outdoor and rustic, including the Rio Java at the bottom of the property. We've hosted neighbors for a day-long teachers' meeting, a nighttime baby shower, and a musical event (speakers are available). Our property is alcohol-free and kid-friendly. Good shoes are recommended, since we're out in the countryside and there's a grassy slope to walk down.

Access includes: the space (including a bathroom), dedicated staff, some tables and seating, and sound equipment (a microphone and one speaker; two additional speakers cost extra). An additional charge applies for other services. We're connected with a neighboring business that has plenty of tables and chairs, plus decorations for birthday parties and other events.

Contact us to inquire about pricing and availability. Local rentals are possible year-round as available.
